Recovery Guidelines

Post-Treatment Care Guides

Read these essential care steps carefully after your procedure to minimize discomfort and speed up healing.

Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
Immediate & Ongoing Recovery

What to Expect:

Some mild sensitivity to pressure or chewing is completely normal for 3 to 5 days as the surrounding tissue heals.

Dietary Advice:

Avoid chewing or biting on the treated side until local anesthesia wears off and a permanent crown is installed. Stick to soft foods like soups, khichdi, and soft rice.

Crucial Steps:

Take prescribed anti-inflammatory medication on schedule. Ensure you complete your permanent crown placement to protect the tooth from fracturing.

Tooth Extraction & Wisdom Tooth
First 24-48 Hours

Bleeding Control:

Keep firm pressure on the gauze pad for 45 minutes after leaving the clinic. Minor oozing of blood mixed with saliva for 24 hours is normal.

Strictly Avoid:

Do NOT spit, rinse vigorously, or drink using a straw for 24 hours. Spitting creates suction that dislodges the healing blood clot.

Swelling & Care:

Apply an ice pack externally to your cheek for 10-minute intervals during the first day. Start gentle warm salt-water rinses after 24 hours.

Dental Implants
Surgical Site Maintenance

Oral Hygiene:

Do not touch or brush directly over the implant site for the first 48 hours. Use the prescribed chlorhexidine mouthwash gently twice daily.

Food Restrictions:

Consume cool, soft foods and liquids on the day of surgery. Avoid extremely hot, spicy, or crunchy foods for at least 5 days.

Lifestyle Note:

Refrain from smoking or using tobacco products for at least 2 weeks, as nicotine severely delays bone integration.

Teeth Cleaning & Polishing
Gum & Tooth Maintenance

Temporary Sensitivity:

Mild sensitivity to hot or cold drinks is temporary and resolves within 24–48 hours as gums adapt after tartar removal.

Desensitizing Paste:

If recommended by the dentist, apply a small dab of desensitizing toothpaste directly to sensitive areas using your finger and leave for 2 minutes before rinsing.

Daily Maintenance:

Resume regular brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and daily flossing twice a day starting the evening after your procedure.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, making it virtually painless. You may feel slight tenderness when chewing for 2–3 days following treatment, which easily subsides with the pain-relief medication prescribed by the doctor.

A tooth that has undergone root canal therapy loses its internal blood supply and becomes brittle over time. A crown restores structural strength, protects the tooth from cracking under normal chewing forces, and prevents bacteria from re-entering the canals.

Place a clean, moist tea bag or fresh cotton gauze firmly over the extraction site and bite down continuously for 45 minutes without talking or checking the site. The tannic acid in tea helps clot the blood. If active bleeding continues beyond this, contact our clinic hotline immediately.

Spitting and sucking through a straw create negative suction in your mouth that can dislodge the newly formed blood clot in the socket. Dislodging this clot causes a painful condition called "Dry Socket," which delays healing.

For composite (tooth-colored) fillings, you can eat immediately once the anesthesia wears off. For permanent crowns fixed with dental cement, avoid sticky or extremely hard foods for 24 hours to allow the cement to cure completely.

Yes, mild sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures is normal after deep scaling because hardened tartar deposits covering the roots have been removed. This usually resolves within 24 to 48 hours.

Keep the dislodged crown safe and clean, and do not attempt to force or glue it back yourself. Avoid chewing on that side and contact our clinic via WhatsApp or phone to schedule a quick recementation appointment.
